Soil Day 2024 – “Healthy Soil, Healthy Future”

On December 6, 2024, the Leo Club of the University of Vavuniya conducted a World Soil Day awareness program at Vavuniya Paavatkulam Ganeshwara Mahavidyalayam, engaging 33 students from Grades 10 and 11. The initiative was organized under the themes of environmental protection and child-focused education, with the goal of highlighting the importance of healthy soil for a sustainable future. The program featured an interactive awareness session that introduced students to the role of soil in ecosystems, the dangers of soil degradation, and the need for sustainable land practices. Students participated in creative drawing activities and group discussions designed to spark critical thinking and deepen their understanding of environmental responsibility. Led by Project Chair Leo Sivamoganathan Krishan, the event encouraged teamwork, creativity, and active engagement. It successfully instilled a sense of environmental stewardship among the participants, reinforcing the message that protecting soil health is essential for long-term ecological balance and food security.
